Technical Lead – Training Transformation Services

Summary of Role:

As a leading International Defence & Security prime, we are recruiting a Technical Lead to support and develop the technology, capability and innovation within our Training Transformation Services (TTS) team.

This significantly important role is within the rapidly growing Cyber, Space and Training (CST) Mission Area of the Raytheon UK business. As Technical Lead, you will be accountable for the technology roadmaps, all technical aspects of internally funded TTS projects and provide technical oversight and assistance as necessary to all inflight TTS programmes. You will report to the Head of Engineering for the CST Mission Area and support the TTS Business Lead. This means that you will be a key contributor and member of the Engineering Leadership Team and the TTS Management Team.

Core to your duties will be developing the overall capability and capacity, as we grow the TTS business. Experience in the development of complex training solutions using modern, leading edge solutions, methods and tools, with the ability to use “make versus buy” trade-offs.

The role can be based at any of Raytheon’s main sites; however, it is a requirement for the incumbent to travel across the UK to Raytheon and customer sites.

Main Duties:

Reporting to the CST Head of Engineering, and the TTS Business Lead for all aspects of engineering, product and services development activity across the TTS business.

Act as the principal focus for all technology related activities at both the tactical and strategic level across TTS.

Create and maintain the technology, product, and services road maps for maximum business benefit.

Create in conjunction with other stakeholders the necessary engineering and training investment plans to support the road maps.

Represent TTS as the technical expert with external stakeholders within the Training ecosystem (Raytheon US, Customers, Suppliers, Partners, Universities).

Co-ordinate research and development activities that enhances capabilities, bids and de-risks programme execution within agreed investment plans.

Monitor emerging technologies and capabilities against readiness levels and enable TTS to be the first to exploit within new or existing products and services.

Assist generating and protecting intellectual property (IP) by proposing ideas and supporting protection by methods such as patents, trade secrets and copyright.

Support the technical reviews for all programmes within TTS.

Play an active role within the CTO / Technical Lead community, promoting the sharing of ideas across business lines and encouraging IP generation and knowledge transfer.

Provide input to goal setting and appraisals for all TTS’ technical team.

Candidate Requirements:


Technical leadership experience, including but not limited to the following:

Demonstrated competency for strategic thinking and thought leadership with strong relationship management with customers, suppliers and industry bodies.

Successfully developed and implemented training solutions in established and new environments using new and emerging training technologies.

Ability to articulate clearly and succinctly, technically complex training solutions orally and in writing.

Knowledge of individual and collective training using leading edge training technologies and techniques for the analysis, design / development, and evaluation.

Extensive experience in delivery of programmes across training and engineering disciplines.

Coaching / Mentoring of technical teams and individuals

Strong people and influencing skills that can be applied across all levels in Raytheon, Customers, Collaborators, and industry partners.

Proven ability to work independently, as well as a member of a team.

Must be willing and eligible to hold SC security clearance and possibly obtain DV clearance if required.


Experience in Military or Commercial Training

Experience in live, virtual, constructive, and gaming (LVC-G) training and simulation systems.

Political and customer / stakeholder relationships within UK / US defence / commercial industry.

Experience managing in a complex International Logistics and Licencing environment.

Member of a relevant Engineering / Training Professional Institution
