IT Technician 2nd Line

Summary of Role:

The Selborne IT Technician role is responsible to the IT Support Manager for the provision and sustainment of IT systems to support the delivery of apprenticeship and naval training within the Selborne contract.

Main Duties:

  • Provide technical support to several IT systems and associated training equipment, including supported AV, are correctly maintained and repaired to enable Selborne contract performance standards to be met and the delivery of naval training is maintained.
  • Provide IS support (1st and 2nd Line) to ensure calls are managed in line with agreed SLA/ KPI Assist in the updating of the register of IT assets.
  • Provide user support to ensure the effective and timely resolution of technical problems, keeping users informed of the status of their request for support.
  • Document solutions to problems regarding standard IT applications and record them appropriately.
  • Assist in the day to day operation of backup systems including rotation of backup tapes.
  • Assist with the software deployment as instructed/requested
  • Assist with the build of PC’s, Servers and Mobile Systems in line with contract and customer need.
  • Monitor system alerts and reports.
  • Manage all works through the TABS FM System or other mandated management system. Contribute to the proper installation, maintenance, and disposal of IS Equipment.
  • Liaison with contractors and suppliers of IS equipment.
  • Provide IT support services ensuring all services are delivered to contract requirements.

Candidate Requirements:


  • Fault finding, diagnosing, repairing and maintaining IT Systems.
  • Fault finding, diagnosing, repairing and maintaining computer peripherals such as AV equipment, scanners, printers and projectors.
  • Basic fault finding, diagnosing and repairing of Ethernet Networks.
  • Local and Domain user account management.
  • Qualified academically or vocationally in relevant IT subject matter.
  • Excellent working experience and knowledge of Microsoft based products such as Desktop OS and Office including the deployment and through life support. Capable of achieving Security Clearance (SC).
  • Full UK driving licence.


  • Applying IT principles practically in the Royal Navy training establishments.
  • An understanding of the MoD Accreditation and SCIDA processes.
  • An understanding of Network Infrastructure Services including Active Directory, Group Policies, DHCP, DNS and Firewalls.
  • Relevant Microsoft Certifications.
  • ITIL Foundation qualification.
