This Finance Manager Projects Role, reporting to the Head of Finance is based in the Cyber, Space & Training, with responsibility for surging into areas in need of improvement or attention and implementing effective and compliant solutions. As a result, this role manages and influences our processes, reporting tools, management information packs and cross functional improvement projects as well as senior business stakeholders. Through partnering with professionals from across the Cyber, Space & Training business as well as the wider RSL, the role provides the opportunity to implement significant improvements to drive the performance of the business.


  • Identification and Prioritisation based on both qualitative and quantitative measures of both Finance improvement projects and cross functional business projects
  • Ownership of total project improvement through initial concept, development, end user testing and stakeholder acceptance
  • Influence parties within and out with own job function at an operational level regarding policies, procedures and practices
  • Presenting ROIs for each programme identified and ensuring responsibility is held
  • Ownership of Capital, SEED and NBI for all Cyber, Space & Training projects including leading on and collating information for relating AR and Business Case review packs
  • Implementing automation into standard weekly and monthly tasks
  • Establishing Standardisation across sub pillars for all aspect of reporting
  • Establishing Weekly Dashboard reporting for all Sub-Mission Areas
  • Provide Finance business partner support to multiple business areas in peak periods and key strategic priorities
  • Effectively manage multiple project deliverables to drive scaled process improvements across CST
  • Ensure that improvements, Investments and special projects are confidently communicated to senior stakeholders, peers and the wider organisation to promote best practice and knowledge sharing
  • Ensure that single points of failure are removed from business processes, people, and systems by delivering training on specialist skillsets where necessary i.e VBA skills

Candidate Requirements:
Essential Skills:

  • Expert Microsoft Excel Skills including VBA
  • Resilience and ability to adapt to changes in a fast-paced growing organisation
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to translate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders
  • Collaborator who can influence and link between multiple functions to achieve goals
  • Strong financial analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise, plan and work on multiple issues/problems with a variety of stakeholders and sources of information, both internal and external
  • Experience in programme environment with knowledge of accounting for long term contracts, including Estimate at Completion
  • Capability to provide meaningful actionable insight, critical thinking and an ability to think differently about existing problems
  • Excellent systems skills – SAP, COGNOS Enterprise Planning and Business Intelligence
  • Ability to work under time pressure
  • Creative and entrepreneurial, providing innovative solutions who can operate effectively under changing constraints
  • Excellent presentational skills. Comfortable with data and detail, but having the ability to extract high level messages to support business decisions
  • Self-Motivator with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a wider project team
  • Drive to see projects through start up phases into implementation
  • CIMA/ACCA qualified (or equivalent)
  • Current holder of or eligibility to obtain MoD Secret (SC) level security clearance
  • Previous experience in a business partnering role

Desired skills:

  • Defence Industry or similar large complex contracting environment experience would be strong advantage

Commercial/Business background, with demonstrable acumen
