Facilities Manager – Contractor

Summary of Role

The Facilities Manager will take ownership of the operational management and delivery of all facilities management and project services delivered within their region or location(s).

This includes the management of the business function interface within a designated area of the UK estate and having a high profile in the day-to-day running of the sites.

You’ll have a strong link with stakeholders, guaranteeing appropriate and responsive reaction to address any concerns.

This is an active and visible role requiring excellent relationship and supplier management skills. Working as part of the wider UK EHS and Facilities team within the UK, the Facilities Manager will be expected to positively contribute to the performance of the department and function with excellent service within the organisation.

Subject to managerial direction, you will generally be subject to broad practices and procedures that are covered by functional/business precedents and policies.

Main Duties:

  • Accountable for specific areas of responsibility, deliverables and risk management Delivers activities to support operational objectives for specific functional unit, contract, project or specialism to planning activities with horizons of typically 6 months to one year.
  • Operates within agreed operational and/or management guidelines.
  • Interacts with programme leadership or users around specific work efforts and deliverables.
  • Supports delivery of Environmental, Health and Safety policy and standards. Manages the activities of others to meet deadlines and quality standards taking account of impact outside area of responsibility.
  • Delivers against defined targets but performs a range of tasks from complex to straightforward Financial Accountabilities – typically manages cost centre budget (first line budgetary accountability), identifies ways to reduce cost and improve service and manages project / variable costs To manage the stakeholder interface within an assigned region or location(s).
  • High profile role in the day-to-day running of the sites, and provision of a consistently strong link with stakeholders, guaranteeing appropriate and responsive reaction to address any concerns.
  • To manage excellent relationships with stakeholders, suppliers and other partners within the region / site(s). To ensure that the operational aspects your region are delivered in accordance with the SLA by an agreed programme of qualitative checks and controlled measures and to rectify identified deviation where appropriate.
  • To support the function develop opportunities to maximise the profitable growth of the business through understanding functional needs, maximizing the space utilisation, services delivered and championing excellent customer care.
  • To ensure compliance with all Statutory, EHS, Security and relevant company policies to help to support the generation of a true health and safety focused culture.
  • Where appropriate to lead, recruit, develop and retain staff to deliver services in the most efficient and effective manner.
  • To manager outsource vendor partners to achieve the most cost effective service solutions.
  • To ensure that a continuous improvement process is an integral part of service delivery increasingly adding value to both the wider team and functional business unit.
  • As a member of the Facilities Management Team, to be an ambassador and leader of the wider team. To organise and facilitate regular functional forums and meetings with other key stakeholders as appropriate.
  • To interact with all internal teams to implement the consistent, effective and efficient delivery of planned and reactive tasks and in doing so, support best practice.
  • To support internal / external customer and company audits ensuring optimum results are achieved.
  • Assist in the establishment of systems of monitoring and control, designed to ensure appropriate control over all critical service points, to maximise satisfaction, minimise complaints and other adverse feedback.
  • To ensure that records are held and updated as required.
  • When required to manage the people resources effectively and efficiently to deliver the required services.
  • Undertake analysis of budgetary information to assist in annual budgetary and monthly forecasting processes.
  • To set objectives for direct reports and review bi-monthly.
  • Ensure same approach for all staff within area of responsibility To ensure all new starters receive induction training in line with company policies and procedures.
  • To ensure objectives, performance reviews and job chats are completed as per standing company policy.

Candidate Requirements


  • Have achieved a degree or a minimum of HND in an Engineering discipline. Thorough working knowledge of one functional area through significant job experience & training e.g. but not limited to Building Services Engineering, Structural or Civil Engineering and or Construction Program Management
  • Supporting a business contract and/or providing support to a professional function
  • Will have proven business experience and ideally fully qualified professional or intermediate level qualifications.
  • Have a sound working knowledge of all UK facilities biased statute Member of a relevant recognised Industry professional body (e.g. BIFM, CIBSE etc)


  • Have a working knowledge of automated drawing software packages / Computed Aided Design (CAD)
  • Have a working knowledge of project management scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project
  • Have a working understanding of Asset Management/Protection.
