About The Team

The successful candidate will be part of the Financial Services (FS) Product Engineering group, which builds products and solutions enabling Financial Institutions to detect and respond to Financial Crime activity found in their data in a scalable and comprehensive way.

A vacancy exists on the Detection Engineering team in FS Engineering. We build batch, near real-time and real-time detection engines designed to apply expert-driven rule-based scenarios or Machine Learning algorithms on top of behavioural profiles and transactional data.

Purpose of Role

Use a mixture of people, technical and analytical skills to build subject matter expertise in the problems that we solve for our customers and use this expertise to help us scale the delivery of these systems across our experienced Engineering teams and our client project teams.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Learn the Financial Services Compliance (Anti-Money Laundering, Know Your Customer) and Fraud domains and gain a deep understanding of the problems that Financial Institutions need solving
  • Work as a member of a busy R&D team building solutions to complex real-time and batch “big data”-type problems
  • Support internal BAE Systems teams in using the Detection Engines to deliver benefits to clients
  • Build hands-on experience with the product technology to a level where you can demo and operate the system
  • Support the Product Owner and Architects in articulating problems to be solved by the product, in structuring the backlog of work to be done and in supporting the team as they build the product
  • Build a knowledge base of clients using the Detection Engines and their use cases
  • Manage the content of the product collateral for the Detection Engines and engage with Engineers, Technical Authors and users of the documentation to ensure relevance and completeness
  • Join and contribute to our professional communities
  • Grow understanding of data science and its application to solving real world problems

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • 2 – 5 years commercial experience
  • Note that people skills are as important as technical ability in considering suitability for this role
  • Experience of the software development lifecycle and of working directly with a software development team
  • Strong analytical skills from a data or process perspective
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills and experience of planning activities in a team environment
  • Experience of providing support on complex systems to technical teams
  • Technical experience minimum: Databases – SQL development or working with data, experience with installing and running business applications on Windows or Unix platforms
  • An interest in the use of technology to solve business problems and curiosity to understand how this can be done

Desirable/optional:

  • Experience in a B2B software environment
  • Development and testing skills – Java, Scala
  • Agile development methodologies
