Our IT Data and Analytics Team is currently seeking a Data Science Platform Lead to be a part of their innovative and forward-thinking team! The team is predominantly based in Norwich – but we are willing to be flexible on location for candidates with the right skills and level of experience (e.g., the role could be based at one of our offices convenient to your location or home based. This being the case travel to Norwich periodically would be required.

The toolset currently includes Dataiku, Data Robot and RStudio, with Sagemaker due to be implemented in 2022.

We need your experience to lead the team and activities required to service the Data Science community across the organisation, drive adoption of these services across key markets and continually looking to grow our Data Science capability whilst optimising the core service for our business users. The team involve Solution Designers and Developers, Infrastructure Designers, Engineers and Data Scientists.

Responsibilities in the role:

  • Lead the engagement and communication with key Data Science stakeholders and teams across the business, supporting their Data Science, AI and Machine Learning needs, and developing and growing the self-service Data Science capability within Aviva
  • Work with our Data Science community, and Enterprise, Data and Platform architects to define the strategic roadmap for Data Science tooling, supporting implementation of that roadmap
  • Support change delivery onto the Data Science Platform, providing consultancy and delivery resources as necessary to implement projects and business initiatives
  • Ensure high availability of the Data Science platform, driven through effective architectural design, monitoring and alerting, & delivery of service improvements
  • Own implementation, maintenance and support of the Data Science cloud-based infrastructure including AMI refreshes, upgrades and patching, and performance optimisation, whilst ensuring adherence to required standards, procedures and controls (e.g., security and vulnerability management)
  • Work with the Operational Support Manager, ensure support arrangements such as incident management, access requests and deployments are in line with business need, monitoring and refining these to drive out a high-quality service for our business customers
  • Manage Platform engagement with tooling vendors to ensure products are implemented and utilised effectively, users have the training and support needed, and tooling issues and constraints are addressed proactively
  • Lead the IT Data Science Platform Team, a mix of permanent and GSP on-shore and off-shore resources, providing strategic leadership & guidance, embedding best practices, performance managing, developing and growing the team
  • Own the work, resource and cost management within the team
  • Manage the license position for Data Science tooling, working with the business to understand requirements, and with procurement for license purchases and renewals
  • Collaborate with other teams within the Data and Analytics Platform to leverage the overall data platform, and to grow and develop the data proposition

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • Solid and demonstrable experience of the Analytics domain, both in technical application and in strategic development
  • Expertise in one or more Analytics tools (e.g. Dataiku, SAS Visual Data Science, Google Data Analytics, RStudio, Qlik, Business Objects, Tableau, Power BI etc), from both an infrastructure and development perspective
  • Experience of managing Data Science, data development or BI and Analytics Teams, or ready to step into a leadership role having worked in these areas
  • Track record of delivering strategic and business driven change
  • Experience of supporting and maintaining applications and their use with business teams and end users
  • Experience with data solutions using cloud technologies – hosted via IaaS and Paas
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent stakeholder and relationship management. Ability to translate complex business needs into technical solutions, taking customers on the delivery journey
  • Have an open and agile mindset, working collaboratively across teams, and continuously striving for excellence

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with Data Science tools such as Dataiku, Data Robot, RStudio, Sagemaker, SAS Visual Data Science and Google Data Analytics to build and train models
  • Experience of working with vendors
  • Experience of working within an Agile methodology

What will you get for this role?

  • Salary between £50,000 – £60,000 depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications
