The Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau (GNCCB) is the national Garda unit tasked with the forensic examination of computer media seized during the course of criminal investigations. It also conducts investigations into criminal offences of a significant or complex nature including network intrusions, interference with data and websites belonging to Government departments, institutions and corporate entities.
The Digital Forensic Examiner is a unique and important role in the investigation of crime. The role involves accessing and analysing digital information held on a wide range of different devices and compiling reports and statements. Digital Forensic Examiners in the GNCCB also prepare evidence packages; brief investigating members and teams; may be required to assist onsite with searches and are involved in the investigation process including presenting evidence before the Courts.
